Gary LaPierre joins WBZ as a general assignment reporter.

(March) [Jan.] Born in Greenfield in 1942, Gary Lapierre grows up in Shelburne Falls, graduates from Graham Junior College, attends the University of New Hampshire and Boston University, and marries Margaret O’Brien in 1962. He becomes the station’s morning anchor in 1966, and continues in it until he announces his retirement in 2006, saying, “Most people read about history. For 40-plus years, I’ve had a chance to participate in history.” Lapierre dies on February 4, 2019.
